When an operating system fails to boot, the first thing you may think of is the amount of data you stand to lose if you need to format the drive and reinstall the system. However, all is not lost if you have a live disc from which you can boot. Active@ LiveCD can help you create a bootable media, which you can use as an emergency system when the main one fails. It provides backup and recovery functionality, a built-in antivirus scanner, as well as many other useful tools. You may even be able to repair your operating system and avoid reinstalling it.

Active@ LiveCD works on all modern Windows platforms, and it is available for Linux as well. The setup file is a bit large, and it may take some time to download, but the installation process will go much faster. Furthermore, you don't have to make any complicated settings along the way.

The software lets you use any kind of removable media, like CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays or USB flash drives. Additionally, you can create an ISO image and use it later however you want. After deciding what media you want to use, you can choose an operating system and make a wide range of fine settings. Your live disc can have a Windows-based pre-boot environment, but you can also have a Linux-based live CD or USB. Another option is to create a console-based boot disc.

Depending on the selected operating system, the software will provide you with different options, accross a series of tabs, on the same user interface. They allow you to add your own files and drives to your live disc or USB, create startup scripts, and choose a default application, which can be a backup or restore utility, a password changer or others.

It doesn't take long to create a live CD or USB. If you opt for USB, it will go faster, but you will obviously have to sacrifice a USB device because the software will format it and install its own components on it. However, if your operating system goes haywire, you will be able to salvage your important files or even attempt to repair it.

Active@ LiveCD can help you prepare for worst-case scenarios, so you will always have a solution even if the operating system fails completely.

Pros

You can create a Windows or Linux-based live disc. The software places a wide range of useful options at your disposal. It only takes a minute to create a bootable disc or USB drive.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to address.
